Spain Digital Nomad Visa in Valencia: the third DNV capital

2026 guide to the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) in Valencia: documents, Distrito Digital and Lanzadera particulars, Immigration appointment and growing nomad community.

Valencia has consolidated as Spain's third digital-nomad capital after Madrid and Barcelona. The combination is exceptional: more reasonable cost of living than the two big ones (rentals ~30% below Barcelona, ~20% below Madrid), Mediterranean climate with 300 sunny days a year, urban beach (Las Arenas, Malvarrosa), connectivity (VLC with direct flights to >40 European cities), and a vibrant start-up ecosystem centred on Distrito Digital (Marina de València) and the Lanzadera accelerator (by Juan Roig, Mercadona's founder), with more than 1,000 start-ups graduated since its creation.

This guide covers DNV application in Valencia in 2026: documentation, Valencian particulars, Immigration appointment and the regional tax context.

Why Valencia attracts DNVs: 2026 context

  • Distrito Digital at Marina de València (former America's Cup site): coworkings, accelerators, start-ups.
  • Lanzadera: one of Europe's most active accelerators; more than 1,000 start-ups graduated.
  • Valencian corporates: Mercadona, Porcelanosa, Iberdrola, Lladró, ValenciaPort.
  • Universities: UV (University of Valencia), UPV (Polytechnic), CEU, Catholic University of Valencia.
  • Quality of life: European rankings place Valencia among the top 5 cities for quality of life (Economist, Mercer).

2026 financial requirements

Same as the rest of Spain (state-level regulation):

  • Holder: 200% SMI ≈ €2,762/month (€33,144/year).
  • Spouse: +75% SMI ≈ €1,036/month.
  • Per child: +25% SMI ≈ €345/month.

Key documentation

Criminal records (last 5 years of residence)

  • UK: ACRO Police Certificate with FCDO Milton Keynes apostille.
  • US: FBI Identity History Summary with federal Department of State apostille.
  • France: B3no apostille (EU Reg 2016/1191).
  • Italy: certificato penale generale, EU multilingual form.
  • EU-Schengen: with EU Reg 2016/1191 multilingual form + sworn translation.

Medical certificate

  • With literal mention of IHR-2005.
  • Apostille from issuing country.
  • Sworn translation. Provider details by country in the medical certificate sheet.

Professional activity

Same rules as the rest of Spain. Valencia particular: a significant cohort are founders of local start-ups at Lanzadera or Distrito Digital with foreign clients/investors. Same restriction applies as in Barcelona: if the company is Spanish, you technically don't fit the DNV. Usual solution: structure consulting/services for international clients in parallel.

Another strong cohort: Italian and French professionals choosing Valencia for cultural proximity and price. Employment types: product, international marketing, professional services.

Other documents

  • Valid passport (≥6 months).
  • Birth/marriage certificates (for dependents).
  • Proof of financial means.
  • Private health insurance.
  • Rental contract in Valencia or metropolitan area (Paterna, Burjassot, Torrent, etc.).

Application from Spain (UGE-CE)

Recommended route: directly from Spain before UGE-CE based in Madrid. Timeline ~20 calendar days, 3-year residence authorization. Electronic via Sede Electrónica.

After approval: TIE at Valencia Immigration Office (Plaza del Ayuntamiento), prior appointment usually with less saturation than Madrid or Barcelona, similar to Málaga.

Valencian particulars

Co-official language: Valencian

Valencian is co-official. For procedures with the Generalitat Valenciana or Valencia City Council some communications may be in Valencian. Not mandatory for state-level Immigration (which works in Spanish). For padrón or municipal documentation, bilingualism may appear.

Regional taxation

The Valencian Community doesn't have rebates as aggressive as Andalusia or Madrid on Wealth or Inheritance Tax, but the Beckham regime is state-level and identical throughout Spanish territory. DNV tax advantage in Valencia is the same as in other regions for impatriates.

There is a comparative drawback in property purchase ITP: Valencian Community applies 10% (similar to Catalonia, higher than Madrid 6% and Andalusia 7%). Not the most efficient destination tax-wise for a property operation.

Distrito Digital, Lanzadera and Valencia coworkings

  • Distrito Digital (Marina de València): epicentre, former America's Cup site turned tech hub.
  • Lanzadera: Juan Roig's accelerator, 6-month program with intensive mentoring.
  • Demium, Plug and Play Valencia, Wayra: other active accelerators and hubs.
  • Wayco (Cabanyal, Russafa, Cuenca): coworking network with local culture.
  • Niko Coworking (Russafa): for creative profiles.
  • Botanic Hub: closest to UV.
  • Active Slack/Discord communities: Valencia Digital Nomads, Valencia Tech.

Quality of life and neighbourhoods for nomads

Most chosen Valencia neighbourhoods for nomads:

  • Ruzafa / Russafa: the hippest, restaurants, cafés, nightlife.
  • Cabanyal: rehabilitated seaside neighbourhood, next to the beach, cool alternative.
  • Carmen (historic centre): the centre, but more touristy and expensive.
  • Benimaclet: university, affordable, young community.
  • Patraix / Mestalla: residential, better family price/quality ratio.

Common mistakes in Valencia DNV files

  1. FBI apostille at state SoS instead of federal Department of State.
  2. Valencian start-up founders applying DNV without structuring separate professional activity.
  3. Generic medical certificate without literal IHR-2005 mention.
  4. Employer company <1 year operating.
  5. Not registering Beckham regime in time (6 months from SS registration).
  6. Applying for TIE after 30 days from entry (Route A).
