Sworn translation online

A sworn translation ordered over the internet has exactly the same legal validity in Spain as one handed over in person. What makes it valid is the signature of a translator authorised by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEC), not the channel you ordered it through. At Textualia you upload the document, see the price and the delivery date before paying, and receive the electronically signed PDF. From 25 € per page, VAT included.

How it works

Ordering a sworn translation without leaving home

In Spain, the validity of a sworn translation depends on one thing only: that it is signed by a translator authorised by the MAEC and listed in its official register. Neither the law nor the public administrations require the order to be placed in person, or the original document to be handed over physically. That is why a translation ordered online and received as an electronically signed PDF is submitted in exactly the same way as one collected from an office.

What happens once you upload the document

  1. Upload the file (photo or PDF) to the quote tool. No account needed.
  2. See the price and delivery date, calculated on the actual document, VAT included. One billable page equals 400 words.
  3. Choose the turnaround: standard, urgent, express or economy.
  4. Pay by card.
  5. Receive the PDF, electronically signed by the authorised translator and ready to submit.

If you also need it on paper, the printed copy is added at checkout and shipped separately.

What exactly you receive

The default delivery is a PDF carrying the authorised translator's electronic signature, her certification, her stamp and her MAEC authorisation number. That PDF is the valid document, and it is what you submit to public administrations, courts, universities, notaries and registries in Spain.

Every translation we issue is printed on official stamped paper and scanned, so the PDF already carries it. What is optional is shipping the paper original, not the paper itself.

When to order the printed copy as well

Most bodies accept the signed PDF. Order the printed copy as well when the body has explicitly told you it wants paper, when you will be submitting it over a counter with no way to send a file, or when the procedure requires handing over a copy they keep. If in doubt, ask the body first: shipping can be added later.

Common questions

Questions about ordering a sworn translation online

Is a sworn translation ordered online as valid as one done in person?

Yes. Validity comes from the MAEC-authorised translator who signs it, not from how you ordered it. No rule requires ordering in person.

Do I have to send the original paper document?

No. The translation is produced from the file you upload. A sworn translation certifies that the translation is faithful to the document presented to the translator; it does not certify that the original is authentic, which is a matter for the body that issued it.

Is the electronically signed PDF enough, or do I need paper?

The signed PDF is the valid document and is what most bodies accept. If yours has specifically asked for paper, add the printed copy at checkout.

How do I check that the translator is authorised?

The MAEC publishes the official register of sworn translators and interpreters. Our translators appear in it by name and authorisation number, and that number is printed on the translation itself so anyone can verify it.

How long does it take?

It depends on the turnaround you choose and the length of the document. The quote tool gives you the exact date before you pay, not an approximate range.
